Capability Statement - General Ecology

Ecological services are required for the production of stand alone Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), ecology chapters within Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and for Natura Impact Statements (NIS).

Glas Ecology provides a range of ecological consultancy services to clients in both the public and private sectors. We undertake specialist field surveys, provide expert advice and produce high quality reports. Services Provided 


• Bird surveys. General breeding bird surveys as well as specialist studies, including ∗ Vantage Point (VP) surveys e.g. breeding/wintering Hen Harrier, wintering wildfowl (Whooper Swan, Greenland White-fronted Geese, Golden Plover),

∗ Off-shore seabird surveys, following recognised international methodologies, ∗ Breeding Red Grouse, using approved, licensed tape lure techniques,

∗ Estuary counts, for wintering waders and wildfowl, e.g Brent Geese ∗ Breeding birds of prey, e.g. Peregrine Falcon, Merlin. • Habitat and botanical survey and mapping. Undertaken and produced according to Heritage Council recognised guidelines.

• Mammal and other taxa surveys, e.g. Badger, Fox, Otter and bat surveys as well as dragonflies/damselflies, butterflies and Kerry slug.

• Supervision of the installation of mitigation measures during construction, with follow up post-construction monitoring.

• Production of reports, for inclusion in Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Natura Impact Statements (NIS) and stand alone reports.

• Consultation with statutory and non-statutory bodies including local authorities, NPWS and Inland Fisheries IrelanD.
